FAQ
What can I expect to find at the museum?
Troll Museum Tromsø is the entryway to the Enchanted North. Inside you will find a whole world of trolls, fairy tales, and legends, brought to life through handcrafted artwork and immersive, story-driven exhibitions. We bring together Norse mythology, Northern Norwegian folklore, and Sami traditions into one atmospheric journey, all built on genuine research so that every story stays true to the way it was passed down through the generations. Whether you come for the myths, the Northern Lights folklore, or simply the magic of it all, there is something here to surprise you at every turn.
How long does a museum visit take?
We recommend at least 30-45 minutes, although some take longer. You can wander through at your own pace, take your time with every tale, and play board games for a while. Stay as long as the stories keep you.
Where can I find the museum?
You will find us right in the heart of Tromsø at Kaigata 3, with the entrance from Samuel Arnesens gate. We are in the large grey building by the harbour, next to Yonas Pizza and just behind the Enter Amalie Hotel, only a short walk from the city's hotels and cruise docks.
How can I get to the museum?
We are located within a short walking distance of all hotel accommodations, restaurants, and attractions in the city center of Tromsø, on the island of Tromsøya. If you are staying on the mainland (where the Arctic Cathedral is located), bus number 26 is a great way to reach the city center. If you are staying on Kvaløya island, buses number 40 and 42 will help you reach the city center. Other buses that stop near the museum are 24, 28, 33, and 34.
Does the museum have parking?
We do not have parking space for visitors, but there is paid parking available in the surrounding area.
How much do tickets cost and how do I buy them?
Adult tickets cost 200 NOK per person. Students and seniors (65+) get a discounted price of 150 NOK. Tickets for children aged 5-12 are 100 NOK; children under 5 get free entrance to the museum. We also offer family tickets at 450 NOK for 2 adults + 2 children (up to 12 years old). Tickets can be purchased online on our website or at the reception, where we accept cards and cash (Norwegian currency only).
What are your opening hours?
We are open every day 9.00-19.00 during summer and winter, 9.00-18.00 in April, May, September, and October. Any divergence in opening hours will be visible on our Google page and published on our website and social media.
Are you open on Sundays and during holidays?
The museum is open on Sundays with regular opening hours. Major holidays (Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter) may affect opening hours -- check the news on our website, social media, or Google page. We are closed on the 17th of May (Constitution Day).
Is this just for children and tourists?
The Troll Museum is intended for visitors of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in Norwegian mythology, folklore, and local cultural heritage. Children get to experience a world of trolls and fairy tales, while adults can delve deeper into the history, beliefs, and living traditions that shape the cultural identity of Northern Norway. Our goal is to share genuine knowledge about Norwegian and Northern Norwegian folklore with everyone who is curious about it, regardless of age or origin.
