Myths and fairy tales
Norwegian tales with their heroes and villains are brought to life through handmade figures, whole-scene installations, classic illustrations, and most importantly -- storytelling.
Our exhibit is primarily focused on Norwegian myths and fairy tales, from the oldest days of the Norse until modern times.
The story of trolls starts with Norse mythology, with the ice giants of Jotunheim, and with Thor, the god of thunder. It continues through folk beliefs about the forces of nature, high mountains, and deep seas that Norway is so famous for.
We present both individual characters and installations of entire scenes from these stories using handmade, original figures with exceptional attention to detail as well as beautiful illustrations and famous narratives.
Our exhibit relies on the work of folklorists Asbjørnsen and Moe, as well as illustrations by Theodor Kittelsen. It is only thanks to them that all these stories have survived to this day. You can learn more about them and their work in our museum.
