When did you stop looking for magic?

Come As You Are, Aged Five to Ninety-Nine

Somewhere between childhood and now, most of us quietly stopped believing in trolls. We stopped looking twice at a boulder shaped like a face. The mountain turns back into rock. Fog becomes weather. The forest flattens into scenery you drive past. This museum exists to hand that second look back to you.

Trolls were never simple creatures in Norwegian folklore. They carried real weight. A landslide needed a cause. So did the neighbour who walked up the mountain one morning and never came home. Fog swallowed people whole. Certain clearings stayed empty after dark, and everyone knew why, even if nobody said it out loud. Trolls were how whole communities held all of that together without losing their minds.

A child meets a troll here and feels pure wonder. An adult stands in the very same room and meets something quieter: the memory of a time when the world still needed stories to make sense of itself. Both reactions belong in this building. Neither one is more correct than the other.

We built this place for grown-ups just as much as for kids, for anyone between five and ninety-nine. Come exactly as you are. Sceptical, curious, tired, or ten years old. Walk back out with the feeling that the world hasn't been fully explained yet, and that a few corners of it never will be.
