A Troll Havn experience

Sámi Coffee Ceremony

Coffee has carried meaning in Sámi life for generations: this three-hour ceremony, led by a practicing Sámi shaman, treats it as ritual rather than routine.

In Sámi tradition, coffee is rarely just coffee. It marks prosperity, hospitality and the quiet moments that matter, and this ceremony is built around that meaning, not around watching someone perform it. A practicing Sámi shaman opens the space, leads a short cleansing, and shares their own path into the role before the drum comes out.

You'll hear how Sámi cosmology divides the world into three realms, then take part in a drumming journey built on that understanding, including a turn holding and playing the drum yourself, if you're willing. It closes the way it opened: with coffee, poured and drunk together, the ceremony's oldest and simplest part.

The event is held indoors at the museum, in English, for about three hours. Bring an open mind rather than a camera-ready expectation; this isn't recommended for young children, and bookings are final once made.
