Sápmi, the Sámi heartland of Troms and Finnmark · Sámi troll-giant
Stallo, the Giant of Sápmi

Meet Stallo: huge, rich, terrifyingly strong, and just a little slow. For as long as stories have been told in Sápmi, this giant has roamed the tundra with his dog, hunting people, snatching children, and challenging Sámi men to wrestling matches no one should be able to win.
And yet, in tale after tale, someone wins. Never by strength: always by wit. The clever Sámi hero tricks the giant, outtalks him, outthinks him, and walks away with Stallo's silver. It is the North's oldest lesson: the sharp mind beats the heavy fist.
Stallo is older in this land than any fairy-tale troll from the south. In the northern mountains, ancient stone-ring dwellings are still called stallotufter, Stallo sites, in his memory. Tromsø has always been a meeting place of Norwegian and Sámi culture, and this corner belongs to the North's own troll.
